Prague - The Office for Representation of the State in Property Matters (ÚZSVM) announced the third round of the electronic auction for the Štiřín Castle near Prague. The auction will take place from December 12 to 13. The office has lowered the starting price by another 800 million crowns to 1.7 billion crowns. The auction deposit has also been reduced; it will amount to 20 million crowns compared to the previous 25 million. Michaela Tesařová, spokesperson for the property office, informed ČTK about this today.

The previous two attempts to sell the castle in September and October ended unsuccessfully, as no interested party submitted the required auction deposit. Initially, the property office offered the castle for 3.3 billion crowns, and in the second round, the price was lowered to 2.5 billion. It has now reduced it by another 800 million. "The minimum price in this round of the selection process reflects the expert appraisal, costs incurred by ÚZSVM, and investment funds documented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2013," Tesařová stated. The deposit must be paid before the beginning of the electronic auction on December 11 by midnight.

The castle previously served as a hotel with a restaurant, wellness center, and golf course. Originally, Štiřín was managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which announced that it did not need the premises and transferred it to the property office last June. At the time of the transfer, the premises were already reported as closed by the office. This year, the office announced that no other state institution had shown interest in the castle and therefore it would begin selling it to private interested parties.

According to Tesařová, ÚZSVM received a final decision from the Central Bohemian Regional Office on November 7, stating that the selected plots of land in the Štiřín Castle area are designated for forest functions. "For this reason, these plots, which constitute part of the golf course and the bank of the pond, have been excluded from the selection process as they cannot be alienated according to the forestry law. Therefore, ÚZSVM will negotiate the transfer of these plots with the state enterprise Lesy České republiky," the spokesperson added.

Štiřín Castle was built in the mid-18th century. Its current appearance was acquired around 1900 after modifications according to the design of architect Jiří Stibral. The Štiřín castle became state property after World War II as a confiscation; it had been owned by the Ringhoffer family for decades before that. After the war, it was briefly used by scouts as well. From 1985 to 1993, modifications were made to the castle to enable its use as a hotel.
