Prague - Today at noon, the fourth attempt to sell the Central Bohemian castle of Štiřín begins in an electronic auction. No one registered for the previous rounds of the auction. The starting price for the current auction was set by the Office for Representation of the State in Property Matters (ÚZSVM) at 1.445 billion crowns. If the auction is successful, it would be the largest real estate sale in the history of the property office.
The ÚZSVM first offered the Štiřín castle for sale last September, then at a starting price of 3.3 billion crowns. In October, during the second attempt, the starting price was 2.5 billion crowns. In the December auction, the office further reduced the starting price to 1.7 billion crowns, while removing part of the land from the auction compared to the previous two attempts. It responded to the decision of the Central Bohemian regional office, which stated that these parcels, which include part of a golf course and a pond bank, are designated for fulfilling the functions of forests. Despite the repeated price reductions, no one has shown interest in the property so far.
The Štiřín castle, located about 25 kilometers from Prague, previously served as a hotel with a restaurant, wellness center, and golf course. Originally, Štiřín was managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which announced that it did not need the premises and transferred it to the property office last June. At the time of the transfer, the office stated that the premises were closed. This year, the office announced that no other state institution has shown interest in the castle, and therefore it will start selling to private buyers.
The Štiřín castle was built in the mid-18th century. It acquired its current appearance around 1900 after modifications according to the design of architect Jiří Stibral. The state acquired the Štiřín castle after World War II as a confiscation, having previously been owned for decades by the Ringhoffer family. After the war, it was briefly used by scouts as well. Between 1985 and 1993, modifications were made to the castle to enable its use as a hotel.
