Prague - The entire park of the Central Bohemian Chateau Štiřín, which the state has been unsuccessfully trying to sell for a longer period, will receive heritage protection. This was reported today by Seznam Zprávy. According to the server, the Minister of Culture Martin Baxa (ODS) decided on the protection in recent days, and the information was confirmed by the ministry spokesperson Ivana Awwadová.
According to Seznam Zpráv, approximately half of the chateau park has been historically protected since 1958. The current protection will apply to all land, including forests. This should prevent new construction and development activities in the area, Seznam Zprávy reported.
"Minister of Culture Martin Baxa confirmed on September 16, 2025, the decision of the Ministry of Culture, which declared predominantly forested lands adjacent to the park of Chateau Štiřín as a cultural monument," Awwadová told Seznam Zprávy.
She added that declaring the lands as a cultural monument aims to preserve the visual axes and perspectives that traverse the area. According to the spokesperson, the chateau, the chateau park, and the land form a significant urban-landscape composition that, as a heritage and architectural dominant, exceeds the significance of the region, the server stated.
The 18th-century chateau previously served as a hotel with a restaurant, wellness center, and golf course. It was originally managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which transferred it to the Office for State Representation in Property Matters (ÚZSVM), justifying the move by stating that the chateau was not needed. So far, the state has unsuccessfully tried to sell the chateau in an electronic auction eight times. In the last auction, the starting price was 795.9 million crowns.
The expansion of heritage protection was welcomed by Michaela Valentová, chairwoman of the Kamenicko association, which submitted the proposal. The ministry had already attempted to extend the heritage protection last year, but it was opposed at that time by ÚZSVM. After several months of appeal, Baxa confirmed the ministry's decision from last year, the server reported.
