Český Krumlov - Thanks to money from European Union funds, the Ministry of Culture will send tens of millions of crowns to the Český Krumlov revolving auditorium. The funds will go to Krumlov to establish an outdoor theater center. It is not yet decided whether the existing structure in the castle gardens, which is opposed by preservationists and UNESCO, will remain, or whether a new auditorium will be built in the same place or in front of the garden. This is reported in today’s South Bohemian supplement of Mladá fronta Dnes. The state is set to receive 250 million euros from EU funds to support Czech culture from 2007 to 2013. Each region will contribute to two projects. In South Bohemia, the Jindřichův Hradec National Museum of Photography will receive a grant, as will the workshops of historical crafts in the Minorite monastery and the revolving stage in Český Krumlov. "We want to distribute the money evenly. Given the character of the monument, Krumlov deserves this project," said the Ministry of Culture spokesperson Jan Cieslar to the newspaper. The South Bohemian Theater plays in front of the revolving auditorium, and according to its director Jiří Šesták, the project will connect their activities with the Baroque theater and the Miraculum festival. It includes reconstruction or relocation of the revolving stage. Moreover, the preservationists promised to extend the theater's lease of the castle garden and Bellarie by one year, ensuring that the 2009 season is secure. However, they have a condition: the cities of Krumlov, České Budějovice, and the theater must show willingness to address the issue with the revolving stage, which must disappear from the garden by 2016. "It is agreed: let the stage revolve, we are ready to extend the contract until 2015. But at the moment we see that things are not progressing, we will not sign for another year," quotes Mf Dnes the director of the South Bohemian preservationists Petr Pavlec.
