Třemošnice (Chrudim Region) - Instead of the planned church in Třemošnice in the Chrudim region, a newly built park with Christian symbols has emerged. It took about ten years to raise only two million crowns for the church, which was a tenth of the necessary funds. Next Thursday, the town will take over the park as a gift and will take care of it. Marie Pražanová, the initiator of the construction, told ČTK. "We raised the money through a public collection. The region set the condition that we had to spend the money or we would lose it. I’m quite glad it turned out this way; the money was starting to scare me. However, I do not give up on the idea of a church; I just hope that someone younger will take it on," said the sixty-seven-year-old Pražanová. The park is located a short distance from the square, and the land belongs to the town. On the site where the church was supposed to stand, there is a stone cross on the ground, with a path leading to a wooden cross. People have access to ten benches. The paths are covered with red sand and gravel. The ceremonial handover to the town is to take place in the presence of auxiliary bishop Josef Kajnek. "I’m happier that there is a park; it serves a much wider public. There are many churches around, and they are quite in poor technical condition. Building the Třemošnice church for 20 million crowns is quite a luxury," said Mayor Stanislav Peca. Services in the three-thousand-strong Třemošnice are held every Sunday in a renovated room of the chateau. According to the mayor, it provides a dignified environment for believers. The initiators of the new church project started preparing it in 2002. Architect David Vávra created the design for them. It was intended to be a modern building in the shape of a cross surrounded by a park of the same outline. The church was to have ten windows and a wealth of Christian symbolism.
