Brno - The rough construction of the new dispatch building along Zvonařka Street opposite Vaňkovka is already standing at the Brno bus station Zvonařka. Work is also underway on the repair of the platforms, and some are already being completed. The total reconstruction of the station costs the owner, which is ČSAD Brno-město, over 100 million crowns. For passengers, it is currently complicated not only by the construction site itself but also by the prolonged reconstruction of the surrounding streets. Buses often get delayed on arrival and departure, said Antonín Grund, chairman of the board, to ČTK.
The new ticket hall will be one of the main benefits of the reconstruction. It is located where there were sales stalls in the past and a wall separating the station from the street. Now this place will become the entrance to the station.
The platforms with boarding islands are also being repaired. People will no longer have to walk around the station to get to the platforms; instead, there will be a central crossing in the middle leading from the new hall to the back platform under the tracks.
"Most of the ceilings are already completed, the structure is cleaned, and it has a coating that does not absorb emissions. It will brighten up the whole station," said Grund. New lighting will be installed at the end of the construction, which must be completed by the end of the year to fully utilize the grant.
According to Grund, the operations at the station are currently complicated due to the fact that part of the platforms is not usable. "But the operations manager is managing it for now and organizing the changes," said Grund. However, the surrounding area is also a problem. Due to the rerouting of the tram line from Dornych to Plotní Street, all streets around the station are dug up, and traffic through here either does not exist or is limited. "Mondays are the worst. Sometimes it takes a bus half an hour to get to or leave the station," said Grund.
The construction in Plotní Street should be completed by the end of this year, and after more than 40 years, it will be possible to reach the station by tram. However, the street is still being dug up.
Contrary to the original plans, this year the old departure hall will not be repaired, where the drivers will find facilities in the future.
On a weekday, 820 connections of regional, domestic, and international routes pass through the station, serving 17,000 to 18,000 passengers daily.
