Brno - The reconstruction of the Zvonařka bus station in Brno is being postponed from the planned August of this year to the end of early spring next year. The reason is a longer approval process for subsidies than expected. The administrative process could still finish this year, but work can only begin due to the technologies used at the beginning of spring, said Antonín Grund, the chairman of the board of the owner CSAD Brno-město holding, to ČTK.

"We cannot start the construction for now and we are working with the city on the approval of the subsidy. Brno is inclined towards the reconstruction,"
said Grund. The station dates back to the second half of the 1970s. It does not meet today's travel standards and is considerably worn out. The modernization is being prepared by the company according to the design of young Brno architects from the Chybik+Kristof Architects studio.

The work, which will limit the operation of the station, is expected to last about a year. Although many regional buses no longer depart from it and stop at public transport nodes, approximately 1,000 buses, including international lines, pass through Zvonařka daily, and the number of passengers ranges from 25,000 to 30,000 daily.

According to the architects, Zvonařka is a quality expression of brutalist architecture. "It just needs to have its structure cleaned and the lighting changed so that people do not have a gloomy feeling while staying at the station," architect Ondřej Chybík previously stated. A new check-in hall will also be built at Opuštěná street. The original hall at Plotní street will be renovated and will serve administrative purposes and as a driver's facility. There will be a parking lot for cars in the southern part of the station. Currently, Dornych street is being reconstructed so that after its completion, the tram line can be moved to Plotní street. Therefore, after 40 years, the stop will be located directly at the station.
