PRACE (Brno region) - The final part of the new exhibition about the Battle of Austerlitz was opened yesterday by the Museum of Brno at the Mohyla míru monument, which was built in memory of the casualties of this military conflict. The exhibition has been created since last year and has been opened gradually. The current unveiling of sections titled Battle and About the Battle concluded the work of the museum staff. The exhibition uses the latest technologies to bring visitors to the battlefield. The exhibition entitled The Battle of Three Emperors Austerlitz 1805 does not aim to present only the important facts associated with this well-known military conflict, said its creator Jaromír Hanák to ČTK. According to him, the curators also aimed to impact the visitors' emotions as much as possible and to create the atmosphere of the battle in the exhibition. In the Battle section, they used not only computer technology, sound effects, but also footage from the famous film by Sergey Bondarchuk War and Peace, which was made in 1967 based on the novel of the same name by Leo N. Tolstoy. In one of the rooms, visitors first hear two Russian grenadiers talking just before the battle. Then it suddenly dawns, the morning calm is soon interrupted by the roar of explosions and gunfire. Clips from the film are projected on two screens. The images also reflect in the glass. "Everything is installed so that the viewer has the impression of being in the middle of the battlefield," Hanák stated. The last section of the exhibition About the Battle is much more prosaic. It mainly consists of weapons, uniforms, and equipment of the soldiers who fought at Austerlitz on December 2, 1805. One part also deals with the care of wounded soldiers and the fates of some of them. The most interesting feature is probably the computer animation, which shows on the monitor how the individual military operations unfolded on the day of the battle. Napoleon's tactics are also explained in detail. Previously opened sections of the exhibition focus on the circumstances that preceded the Battle of Austerlitz. Notably, there is a map that details the course of Napoleon's campaign in Europe and also the political division of forces during the Napoleonic Wars. The Mohyla míru is a 26-meter-high Art Nouveau monument built at the beginning of the last century according to the design of priest Alois Slovák (1859-1930). He wanted to create a commemorative "place of light as a memento of wars." The Battle of Three Emperors claimed the lives of 16,000 people. Thousands more soldiers were injured. In the famous battle, Napoleon defeated his rivals - the Russian Tsar and the Austrian Emperor.
