Hradec Králové - Dozens of architects are interested in the construction of a new footbridge over the Elbe River in Hradec Králové. So far, more than 80 entities have requested the materials for the architectural competition for the design of the footbridge, announced in December, from the city hall. This was stated today by city hall spokesperson Magdaléna Vlčková. She corrected the statement of Deputy Mayor Jindřich Vedlich (TOP 09), who claimed at Wednesday's press conference that the city hall had already received several dozen proposals from applicants. "The city hall has not received any proposals yet. The deadline for submitting bids is March 7. Interested parties typically submit their bids just before the deadline," Vlčková said. The footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists, which the city has been pursuing for over ten years, is intended to connect the Šimkovy sady area and the Aldis congress center with Karl IV Avenue in the city center. Architects are to design a footbridge whose cost does not exceed 40 million crowns. The city hall anticipates announcing the results of the architectural competition in April. The city hall already built a pedestrian boulevard in the Aldis area in 2003 for nearly 23 million crowns. The footbridge was supposed to extend from it. However, according to the original project, it was necessary to fell an oak tree on the Elbe riverbank, against which nature conservationists successfully protested. The new footbridge solution will allow construction without the need to cut down the oak. The footbridge should be 67 meters long and at least 4.5 meters wide. Architects are not specified on the material it should be made of. However, in their designs, they must take into account the space for the safe movement of migrating birds.
