Marienbad (Cheb Region) - Statisticians today closed the three-story Baťa shoe store in the center of Marienbad in the Cheb region. The building has damaged foundations and will likely need to be demolished, stated Czech Television (ČT). Even the store employees do not have access to the building; the company is searching for alternative locations. The Cheb region was recently struck by an earthquake, one of the strongest in the area in the last 100 years. However, according to the structural engineer, the damage to the building in Marienbad is not related to the tremors.

According to the television, cracks have appeared in the walls of the house, and the building is sinking. Today, construction office workers were on site, and structural engineers prohibited entry to the building. "It is not related to the earthquake," said structural engineer Martin Šafařík to ČT. However, he did not want to provide more detailed information.
"Problems have arisen with the building's structure. That is why we have closed this building for preventive reasons," announced Baťa's marketing director Lukáš Ohanka to the television. How long it will remain closed is still unknown to the company's management. According to information from the municipal office, the building is in a state of emergency, stated ČT.
