Prague - Experts and architects welcomed today's appointment of Ondřej Boháč as the director of the Prague Institute of Planning and Development (IPR). According to them, he is the most suitable candidate who knows the workings of the IPR and can think strategically. Boháč was also supported by the former director of the IPR, architect Petr Hlaváček. This was reported to ČTK by representatives of professional institutions and architectural offices. Boháč was appointed today by Prague councillors and takes over the position from Hlaváček, who was dismissed last September. The IPR is a contributory organization of the city that deals with land-use planning, among other things. "Ondřej Boháč has my full support. Prague would have a hard time finding a person who is better prepared for the position of director of IPR Prague at this moment," said Hlaváček.
Architect Martin Rajniš, who was a member of the renowned architectural office SIAL, stated that Boháč is decisive and capable of strategic thinking. "I know him as a decisive and matter-of-fact person who can think strategically. I believe he is the right person to bring the preparations for the Metropolitan Plan to a successful conclusion," wrote Rajniš.
Boháč was also supported by Jan Jehlík, the head of the Department of Urbanism at the Faculty of Architecture at Czech Technical University. "I see the appointment of Ondřej Boháč as an important step towards stabilizing the IPR. He and the former director Hlaváček formed an excellent tandem, and I am convinced that he will also do very well in the role of director," he stated.
The organization reSITE, which focuses on communication between urbanism, politics, culture, and economics, wants to continue collaborating with Boháč. "reSITE has greatly appreciated the constructive cooperation with the IPR over the past three years, and we will be happy to continue offering our insights and expert network to the newly appointed director and his team," stated reSITE chairman Martin Barry.
Prague councillors originally intended to announce a public competition for the vacant position, but ultimately decided against it. Hlaváček was dismissed in September, among other reasons, due to alleged doubts related to the creation of the Metropolitan Plan.
Boháč (1982) studied regional development at the Faculty of Science of Charles University. He has previously served as the deputy director of the IPR and has also worked as the head of the office of the former mayor Tomáš Hudeček (then TOP 09), who had land development under his jurisdiction.
The annual budget of the IPR is approximately 300 million CZK.
