Opava - Opava has a reconstructed Cultural House on Rybníček. Its year-and-a-half-long renovation cost approximately 153 million crowns. The city is now looking for an operator for it. People will be able to view the repaired building on Saturday during the open house day, said today ČTK spokeswoman of the Opava magistrate, Lada Dobrovolná. The extensive reconstruction began in October 2010. The premises of the cultural house, with a total capacity of 460 people, where dance classes and balls were primarily held, were in completely inadequate condition. "The people of Opava complained about outdated interiors, an ugly facade, malfunctioning technologies, and undignified social facilities," Dobrovolná stated. All floors were renovated, and the building was expanded with a smaller annex in the courtyard area, which will serve as social facilities for visitors to the ground floor of the building. The popular summer seating area Under the Chestnuts has also been revamped. More than 66 million crowns of the total costs were covered by an EU grant, while the rest was paid for by the city from its own budget. On Saturday, interested parties will be able to tour the renovated cultural house themselves or accompanied by students from the Silesian Gymnasium, who will provide them with explanations about the history of the cultural house as well as information on its reconstruction and details in the individual rooms. The original House of the Catholic Apprentices' Association in Opava on Na Rybníčku Street was built at the end of the 19th century. In the post-war years, the building began to serve as a company club, and later several inappropriate construction interventions were made in it.
