Ostrava - House of Art - the seat of the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava (GVUO) is awaiting roof reconstruction. Thus, the gallery will not host exhibitions for the next five months, and the protected monument will reopen to visitors only in mid-October. However, the accompanying activities organized by the gallery will be maintained. The gallery's spokesperson Jana Malášek Šrubařová informed ČTK today. Interested parties can view the current exhibitions until the end of the month.
"Thanks to this reconstruction, the appearance of the House of Art from 1926 will be restored, which I consider very important because it is one of the highest quality architectural monuments in our country. The Moravian-Silesian Region significantly contributes to heritage care; specifically, 12 million crowns will be allocated this year from the regional budget for the roof repair of the House of Art," said the Deputy Governor for Culture and Heritage Care, Lukáš Curylo (KDU-ČSL).
The building will be closed during the construction for safety reasons. It will be accessible again on October 15, when a vernissage of works by Otto Gutfreund and Rudolf Sikora is being prepared. The permanent exhibition and the cycle of exhibitions of a single work from the gallery's collections will also be renewed.
"During the reconstruction, we will not organize exhibitions at the House of Art. Selected accompanying programs will be moved to the GVUO Library at 12 Poděbradova Street. This concerns the lectures by Marek Zágora and Gabriela Pelikánová, the presentation of students titled Six, and the festival Ostrava Museum Night," said the gallery director Jiří Jůza.
Since the beginning of the year, over 19,000 visitors have viewed the gallery's exhibition projects. 46 educational programs and four guided tours have taken place. More information about the gallery's activities can also be found at www.gvuo.cz. The House of Art will be open until April 30 from Tuesday to Sunday, always from 10:00 to 18:00.
