Písek - Písek will begin repairs on the footbridge over the municipal island on February 8, and it will therefore be closed. The city will also repair the bridge on Ostrovní Street. Work amounting to nearly 30 million crowns, excluding VAT, will be carried out by the company Metrostav, and should be completed by mid-June. The last time the footbridge was repaired was in 1992, and now there are defects in the supporting structure caused by water. The structure is damaged at the supports due to frost. Petra Měšťanová, spokesperson for the town hall, said this today to ČTK.
The footbridge is for pedestrians and cyclists. "When it is the season, people use it a lot. Instead, they can go over the Kamenný bridge or a few hundred meters further to the new footbridge of Dagmar Šimková," said the spokesperson.
During the repair of the footbridge from 1929, new rust protection will be created. Parts that have rusted will be replaced; bearings will be refurbished and returned. The company will also repair the substructure, cracks, and concrete; the stone cladding of the pillars will be cleaned. The railings will also be new, the spokesperson stated in a press release.
This is another footbridge that the city is repairing. Last summer, it opened the pedestrian footbridge over the Otava River, which had been closed since December 2019 because it was necessary to check the technical condition of the supporting cables. An expert report from the Klokner Institute's Testing Laboratory at ČVUT in Prague confirmed that the bridge should be safe for at least the next five years. The footbridge leading from the Portyč housing estate to the 1st of May waterfront will undergo inspections twice a year.
Písek, home to 30,000 people, is managing this year's budget with a deficit of over 286 million crowns. The balance will be covered from reserves from previous years. The budget projects revenues of 866 million crowns and expenditures of 1.15 billion crowns.
