Písek - Písek will begin the reconstruction of the footbridge over the City Island at a cost of about 30 million crowns only next year. Originally, it intended to repair it this year, but due to repeated tender processes for the contractor, the project had to be postponed. The Písek city councilors are expected to discuss the release of funds for the reconstruction of the footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists in June. Irena Malotová, spokesperson for the Písek city hall, told ČTK.
"We do not yet have the implementation documentation available, based on which we can more accurately determine the expected price of the work and conduct the tender. Furthermore, the tenant of the Ostrov restaurant, which can only be accessed via the footbridge or by water, already has events booked for this summer season. Given that, thanks to his proactive approach, the facility has been completely renovated and operates year-round, we want to accommodate him and carry out the construction outside of the season," said Deputy Mayor of Písek Petra Trambová (TOP 09).
The footbridge has stood in its place for 90 years. The last major repair took place in 1992. The footbridge, due to its riveted structure, was not destroyed even by the flood in 2002.
"The planned reconstruction of the footbridge over the island will include a partial replacement of the steel structure, repairs to the pillars, a new deck, and repairs to the concrete bridge over the Mehelnický stream in Ostrovní street. The footbridge has had a review for safe use with a five-year validity since last year. The municipal services continuously carry out repairs to the loosened steps and minor repairs, coatings, and cleaning of the supporting structure," said Josef Hrádek, managing director of the Municipal Services of Písek.
