Prague - The Railway Administration has doubts about the safety of the platform being constructed above the tracks at Masaryk Station. According to experts, part of the platform may not be sufficiently reinforced. Therefore, the Railway Administration is having technical assessments prepared to propose the next steps. The spokesperson for the Railway Administration, Nela Eberl Friebová, informed the Czech News Agency today. The construction of the platform is part of the modernization of Masaryk Station. The reconstruction, costing nearly four billion crowns, began last January and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2027.

A part of the platform that is meant to connect Na Florenci, Hybernská, and Opletalova streets is already built. According to the project developed by an external contractor, it is partially completed. However, experts from the Railway Administration found that a section of the platform may not be sufficiently reinforced. "They are currently actively addressing the situation, and technical assessments are being processed to help find a suitable and effective way to continue construction. The costs for the additional work will be demanded by the Railway Administration from the designer. The proposed procedure will also lead to an update on the opening date of the platforms at the new tracks eight and nine," the spokesperson stated.

As part of the modernization, new tracks for train maintenance have been created at the station. The reconstruction of the line from Masaryk Station to Libeň is also completed, allowing trains to operate faster on this section. Currently, builders are working on increasing the number of tracks from seven to nine.

The modernization of Masaryk Station is part of the railway project to the airport and Kladno consisting of 11 separate constructions. The reconstruction of the Negrelli Viaduct is completed, the station in Bubny has been in operation since August, as well as the stop at Výstaviště and the section between the stations Kladno and Kladno-Ostrovec. The modernization of the line from Ruzyně to Kladno is to follow. Next year, the Railway Administration will seek a contractor for the line from Výstaviště to the new underground station in Dejvice.

Masaryk Station is the oldest station of the original steam railway in Prague, with the first train arriving on August 20, 1845. It is one of the busiest stations for Prague's urban and suburban rail connections, with tens of thousands of passengers passing through daily.
