Prague – The reconstruction of Masaryk Station in Prague will be ensured for the Railway Administration (SŽ) by the companies STRABAG Rail and STRABAG, which succeeded in the tender, for approximately 3.39 billion crowns. This was announced by SŽ spokeswoman Nela Eberl Friebová. During the reconstruction, a platform will be created above the track area, better connections with Florenc will be established, and instead of the current seven, trains will stop at nine platforms. The work is expected to be completed in 2027. SŽ also plans the reconstruction of Smíchov Station and the main station in Prague.

Work will begin at the beginning of next year, the station will continue to operate during the reconstruction, and trains will still stop there with partial restrictions. After the reconstruction, the oldest Prague station will be barrier-free, and the new roofing will connect Florenc with Hybernská Street and the main station. Escalators, stairs, and elevators will lead from the upper level to the individual platforms. A new vestibule for waiting passengers will also be created.

"Part of the platform will be planted with greenery, creating a relaxation zone right in the city center," Eberl Friebová stated. According to her, the historic station from the mid-19th century will retain its original character while offering travelers greater comfort. The entire track area, all technologies, traction power supply, and connections will also be reconstructed. Part of the funds for the work will be obtained by SŽ from European funds.

SŽ recently announced two tenders related to the reconstruction of Smíchov Station. The first contract includes the reconstruction of the station, including the repair of platforms, the creation of one new platform, and the repair of underpasses. A footbridge will also be built over the railway, connecting Smíchov, Radlice, and the developing Smíchov City district between the station and the area at Na Knížecí. SŽ announced the tender in August with an estimated value of 5.2 billion crowns. In addition, last week it also announced a public contract for the preparation of a project for the reconstruction and expansion of the Smíchov Station building.

There are also plans for the reconstruction of the new departure hall at the main station. SŽ, together with the Prague City Hall and the transport company, announced an architectural competition for the reconstruction of the hall, the adjustment of Vrchlický Gardens, and the solution for the planned tram line from Vinohradská to Bolzanova Street, in which the Danish studio Henning Larsen Architects was successful. The winning design subsequently garnered criticism because it involves the removal of a large part of the hall.
