Praha 1 plans modifications to the park near Štefánik Bridge

Prague – The Prague 1 Town Hall is preparing the reconstruction of the children's playground in Lannova park, which is located on the banks of Ludvík Svoboda next to Štefánik Bridge. In response to a query from ČTK, Deputy Mayor of the city district Kateřina Klasnová (Residents 1) stated this. The representatives of Prague 1 recently allocated about 10.5 million crowns for the work. According to Klasnová, the town hall also plans other modifications in the park that arose from a survey among local residents.

The Deputy Mayor told ČTK that the town hall had to coordinate the playground reconstruction with architect Zdeněk Sendler, who is the author of the park's design, and all modifications must be approved with regard to copyright. Nevertheless, she stated that the reconstruction is necessary. "The surfaces are in a state of emergency; they would have already closed it (the park) if we hadn’t proceeded with a general repair," Klasnová said.

She added that the modifications will involve the replacement of surfaces and play elements, and shading for sandpits will be added. "I hope that we would publish the call for tenders by the summer at the latest and I would be glad if work started this autumn," she said.

These are not the last modifications that the town hall would like to make in the park. For the playground reconstruction, the city district organized a so-called participatory process with local residents, from which, according to the Deputy Mayor, further suggestions concerning the overall appearance of the park emerged.

Most of them, according to Klasnová, relate to the expansion of the playground, for example, to include sports areas. "People focus where they can do something," the politician summarized. "It’s an extremely busy playground because there isn’t much greenery around," she added. However, according to her, further modifications will again have to be discussed with the architect of the original park design.
