Prague - Prague 6 has approved the demolition of a functionalist villa in Petřiny. It is to be replaced by a four-story new building. Local residents are opposed. They are signing a petition urging politicians to save the villa. CTK discovered this from a text of the appeal.

The apartment villa designed by architect Pavel Simonov is located at Na Petřinách 1482/7. According to the authors of the petition, it is a valuable building. It should be preserved. The planned modern construction is reportedly oversized and does not fit into the local development.

"Given the fact that the villa is not protected as a monument and that no special legal norm applies to it, the city council's building department issued a proper permit for its demolition some time ago," responded city hall spokesman Martin Churavý. "Negotiations about the new construction that the investor intends to undertake at the site have not yet been initiated by the building department at all," he added. However, the commission for urban development has expressed a positive opinion on the plan.

Last year, Prague 6 approved the demolition of parts of two functionalist villas in Baba known as Čeňková and Košťálova villa. In the past, two villas in old Střešovice or in Ořechovka were demolished. One of them belonged to the famous fashion designer Blanka Matragi. The authorities imposed penalties for both demolitions.
