Prague - Prague will announce a tender for the construction of a new footbridge over the Berounka River in Radotín. The reason is the emergency condition of the current footbridge. The estimated costs are 61.9 million crowns. This was decided by Prague representatives at their meeting, which began on Thursday morning. Construction is expected to start later this year and will last for two years. During most of the construction of the new footbridge, traffic on the existing footbridge will be maintained.

The footbridge, which will be 170 meters long, will follow a slightly different route than the current one. On one side, it will connect to K Radotínu Street and on the other side to Nad Berounkou Street. The crossing is designed as a post-tensioned concrete slab on pillars. The project includes the relocation of utilities that are currently located on the existing footbridge. The project preparation for the construction of the new footbridge began in 2014. The zoning decision was obtained in February 2017 and is now awaiting the issuance of a building permit.

The existing footbridge, built in 1994, is in poor condition due to floods in 2002 and 2013, which does not allow for excessive loading. In 2014, it was temporarily supported by steel props. After an extraordinary inspection in December 2017, a structural engineer recommended further reinforcement of the structure, which was carried out in April, along with other measures that allow for limited traffic until the new one is built, no later than 2020.

Prague has long-standing problems with the condition of its bridges and footbridges. Last December, a footbridge between Císařský ostrov and Troja collapsed, and the Libeň Bridge was closed for several weeks, requiring support. The Hlávkův Bridge and Palackého Bridge also need repairs, and reconstruction of the Barrandov Bridge is planned.
