Litomyšl (Svitavsko) - The Regional Museum in Litomyšl, which is set to be renovated, has begun moving. Museum staff are relocating an extensive library, and the transfer of museum furnishings will take place starting July 2, when the building will be closed. The renovation of the museum will cost 86 million crowns. This was reported by its director, René Klimeš, to ČTK.

"Currently, the relocation of archives, libraries, and similar items is taking place. At the end of June, the museum will close, and the main stage of the moving will begin. The construction site will then be handed over in mid-August," Klimeš said.
The baroque building from the early 18th century is set to be expanded with an integrated entrance building featuring a foyer and social facilities. The building will include new exhibition and social spaces and facilities for presentation and educational events. The project's author is architect Josef Pleskot. The total cost is 86 million crowns, with 74 million coming from the Regional Operational Program.
During the reconstruction, the museum will have no own exhibition spaces, only depositories and offices. Museum staff will collaborate with other cultural institutions in the city to organize exhibitions. They will also work on a new permanent exhibition for the renovated museum. According to Klimeš, it aims to appeal to the widest possible audience, both in terms of age and education.
The Litomyšl Museum was founded in 1891 and was located in the premises of the closed city high school. In 1926, it moved to the spacious baroque building of the former Piarist gymnasium, built between 1714 and 1718. The museum has been based in this building ever since. Since the 1990s, the birthplace of Bedřich Smetana has also been under the museum's management. In 2004, the existing city museum was transformed into a regional museum with jurisdiction over the Svitavy district, and its founder became the Pardubice Region.
