Brno - Michal Sedláček has ended his role as the director of the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno, a position he held for more than six years. Architect Jan Tesárek has been entrusted with leading the office. The city is preparing a selection process for a new chief architect. Today, the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno stated this on Facebook. Sedláček told ČTK that he will remember the work, atmosphere, and great team fondly. He will now take on the role of head of project preparation for the South Quarter project.
In December, Brno councillor for urban planning Petr Bořecký (ANO) spoke about a possible selection process. Sedláček was at the forefront of the office's functioning after its renewal in 2016. "With the last day of 2022, the term of our founder and first director of the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno has ended. We thank Michal Sedláček for all the work he has done for the city of Brno for more than six years," the office stated.
It added that leadership is entrusted to Tesárek and the city is preparing a selection process for the chief architect. Sedláček mentioned that when the office was established in 2016, he was the first and only employee. "I didn't have a computer, a chair, or a desk. In six and a half years, we managed to build an architectural-engineering office that was involved in most of the important projects and events of the city of Brno. I will remember the work, atmosphere, and great team fondly," Sedláček stated.
In the role of project manager for the South Quarter, he aims to focus on key projects for the further development of the city. "These are the new Trnitá district, the new main train station, the Brno railway hub, and the north-south railway diamond," Sedláček listed.
Last year, Sedláček unsuccessfully ran for the Senate in Brno for TOP 09 with the support of KDU-ČSL. He has previously worked in the USA. He took on the role of city architect in July 2016, having previously worked in Los Angeles.
The office of the chief architect previously existed in Brno but was dissolved in 2003 when the city was governed by a coalition led by ODS. The office was re-established during a time when the magistrate was led by a coalition headed by the ANO movement. The Greens initiated its establishment. It now has around 60 employees.
