BRNO - The Spanish company Comsa International today signed a contract for the purchase of the dilapidated landmark Městský dvůr at Šilingrovo náměstí in Brno. The sale for 32 million CZK was approved by the city council at the beginning of October. The Spaniards committed to renovate the building into a four- to five-star hotel within 30 months from the granting of the building permit. This was informed today by Pavel Žára, spokesman for the Brno City Hall.
According to him, the city also obtained a preemption right in the contract, should Comsa wish to dispose of its new property in the future. The company Le Palais also applied for the tender, which participated in the construction of the Velký Špalíček, but the council preferred the former. The city had previously unsuccessfully offered the palace as a seat for the Supreme Administrative Court or the Antimonopoly Office.
The extensive five-story building with four wings is expected to incur costs of approximately 200 million CZK according to the reasoning report from the city hall. Therefore, due to a lack of funds, the city decided to sell the property to a private investor.
The building previously housed the city museum, and its temporary users were gradually evicted. The former dental clinic of the university hospital had already found a new location in the Bohunice hospital complex. The municipal police also left the corner office in the building, and the last to move was the building office of the Brno-střed city district, which relocated to part of the elementary school building at Mendlovo náměstí.
