Ústí nad Labem - The Ministry of Justice plans that the new courthouse in Ústí nad Labem, costing approximately 850 million crowns, will be completed by 2018. The state has not yet completed the procurement procedure and has not selected a contractor for the construction. Jiří Hovorka, head of the press department of the Ministry of Justice, told ČTK. The construction of the complex, which will house the regional and district court, the public prosecutor's office, and the probation and mediation service, has been a priority for several consecutive governments. The current buildings are too small and cannot accommodate the 600 employees anymore. The building of the regional court is in poor technical condition. Additionally, the buildings are located in a flood zone on the banks of the Elbe River. In the last 11 years, the regional court has been flooded three times. The costs of repairing the damage after last year's floods have been estimated by the court at 34 million crowns. According to Hovorka, the new judicial complex will be built in the Bukov district on land that the Regional Court in Ústí nad Labem obtained partly as a gratuitous transfer from the state and partly purchased for two million crowns from Ústí nad Labem. The area of the land is 11,000 m². The project includes a parking lot and a dining area for employees. The regional court is currently preparing documentation for the investment plan. "Subsequent to the registration of the project, further stages of project documentation will be processed, including documentation for the public procurement for the construction," added Hovorka. The Ministry estimates the construction costs at 850 million crowns, with 50 million crowns allocated for the project in this year's budget. Originally, the state considered implementing the project as a PPP. "Due to its economic inefficiency, the PPP project was terminated in 2011, and the construction will be financed from the state budget," said Hovorka. Once the courthouse is completed, the Ministry of Justice will first offer the existing buildings to other state institutions and then sell them. No flood protection measures of a construction nature are planned for them by the state.
