Přerov - Construction machines have begun to demolish the upper part of the Prior department store in Přerov, which is expected to cost around 400 million crowns to repair. The completion of the extensive reconstruction of the department store near the center is planned for the middle of next year. The four-story Prior building will be reduced and expanded with an annex onto the adjacent parking lot, where the construction of a shopping passage is planned. "This will create predominantly a two-story and partially three-story building with rooftop parking spaces, which will replace the occupied parking lot," states the announcement of the investment plan. A supermarket and about 60 small shops will open in the shopping gallery. "After the reconstruction, customers will park on the roof of the new gallery, which will have up to 300 parking spaces," said city hall spokesperson Lenka Chalupová. At the same time, the construction of the first shopping center in Přerov is being prepared. A part of the production area of the company Kazeto near the Tesco hypermarket is set to be transformed into a shopping zone, with the Austrian development group Eyemaxx selected to build a shopping complex called My Box. In the Czech Republic, they are already building Stop.Shop shopping parks. The My Box project in Přerov plans to build a single-story building that will house eight large stores, including those selling consumer electronics, drugstore goods, footwear, clothing, and furniture. The new shopping center is designed with a sales area of 4800 m². So far, developers have not built any modern shopping center in Přerov, which has about 47,000 residents. Local residents have access to only the Prior department store, opened in 1986, or the so-called shopping park, which includes several stores. People can also purchase consumer goods at hypermarkets Albert, Tesco, and Kaufland, several supermarkets, or small specialized shops.
