Svitavy - The town hall in Svitavy will this year repair a house on Větrné affected by mold and damaged by other issues. The repairs for 93 apartments will cost the city 19 million crowns. Twelve households will temporarily move out of the house into alternative housing, which will be arranged and paid for by the city, said Svitavy Mayor Jiří Brýdl at a press conference today. "First, the first half of the households will move out, and after the repairs of their apartments are completed, the second half will follow. The reconstruction should be finished by the end of the year," Brýdl said. The construction of the apartment building, which was built by the company Průmyslové stavby Brno, faced difficulties and delays. After approval in 1998, the building was in order except for minor defects. Problems began to appear after the first year of use. "Tiles were falling off. The apartments smelled due to non-functional ventilation heads in the installation shafts. Water leaked onto the balconies, and the floors were sinking. Mold and dampness appeared in the apartments due to insufficient roof insulation," stated the head of the property management department, Petr Vítek. Complaints have been covered by the city budget since 2003. The city will choose a company to repair the building in May. Repairs will begin in June or July, Vítek said. "We want to make sure these problems are resolved for good," Vítek said.
