Brno - The Technology Park Brno, which will celebrate 30 years of its existence at the beginning of next year, is set to expand in the coming years not only with additional facilities for tenants from technological companies but also with residential construction. This year, a new plan for the completion of the area was developed, which has a total of 120 hectares available. This was reported by the management of Technology Park Brno in a press release.

"When the first concepts were presented in 1992, one of them included a master plan that anticipated a significantly larger area than is currently available. The very first proposals included a hotel in the Technology Park area and a golf course nearby," said Jitka Sládková, chairwoman of the board of Technology Park Brno.

The outdated plans needed to be revised according to the current state of the area. The new plan outlines areas for the construction of multi-storey office buildings and an entire residential district in the westernmost part of the park, which will fall within the urban district of Medlánky.

Since last year, the park has only been owned by Brno, which purchased half of the shares from the Dubai company P&O for 559 million crowns. According to city management, the construction of apartments has been planned from the beginning and this plan will not restrict the development or services for tenants of the Technology Park. "The construction of a residential district in the Technology Park has been planned in the long term. There is certainly enough space in the Technology Park for innovative, scientific, and other companies. The services for client companies are, after all, the main focus of the joint-stock company Technology Park," said Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).

Due to the construction of residential buildings with 300 apartments, the tram line is expected to be extended, and a bus depot is to be built in the southern part of the park. In connection with this construction, civic amenities in the area are also expected to improve. "Dozens of families will live in the new district. Therefore, plans for the establishment of a kindergarten or a multi-purpose sports hall are appearing in the proposal. A chapel and a multifunctional building will also be constructed in the area, where residents will find various shops and other services," Sládková mentioned.

She added that it has not yet been determined how the residential buildings will be constructed. According to Sládková, several scenarios are under consideration, some of which involve private investment.

Technology Park Brno was established in 1992 and currently houses around thirty companies, including Kyndryl (IBM), Red Hat, and Ysoft, with approximately 7,000 employees. Part of the area is used by the Brno University of Technology. The park's territory also includes agricultural land, forests, gardens, and nearly ten hectares of unused land, so-called urban wastelands.
