Teplice – Teplice wants to change the appearance of the Market Square. A parking lot will be created, there will be two fountains, public toilets, and vendors will have connections for water, electricity, and sewage. Work on the revitalization of the square will begin in the spring of next year. This was reported today on the website of the city hall.
It will be a complete transformation of the space. The surface of the square will be made of granite paving of various sizes. At the back of the square, a parking lot with an asphalt concrete surface will be created. There will be trees and modern street lighting in the square, which the city hall believes will contribute to the revitalization of the area. The estimated costs amount to up to 51 million crowns, the specific amount will arise from the tender. The work will take place in 2025 and 2026.
According to the city hall, the goal of the investment is to improve the city's appearance. "The Market Square also fits into a broader development plan for Teplice, which includes the gradual revitalization of key parts of the city. Specifically, from the reconstructed Teplice train station and planned adjustments to the larger area in front of the station, through the Market Square, to Benešovo Square, where the reconstruction of the tourist information center is currently underway," stated the city hall.
Last March, a demolition company removed the brick structures at the Market Square that were previously used by market organizers. In the hierarchy of Teplice's squares, it is the fourth most significant space. According to the author of the design for the new look of the entire area, architect Jan Hanzlík, the Market Square has long been an overlooked public space situated right in the center.
