Teplice - Teplice is still interested in the Snake Spa in the city center. This was confirmed by the city councilors, and therefore, the magistrate will publish the intention to purchase the property, which recently lost its status as a cultural monument, along with the land. The property belongs to entrepreneur Jaroslav Třešňák. Further steps will be decided by the city councilors. Teplice's mayor Hynek Hanza (ODS) told ČTK this today.

Třešňák offered the spa to the city before the summer holidays. The city hall had an expert and structural report prepared, according to which the building can be saved.

"The council decided unanimously. We will respond to Mr. Třešňák's offer legally, that is, we will publish the information on the official board, where it will remain for 15 days. After that, the matter will return to the council, which will forward the decision to the city council. Only they can legitimately manage the city's property," said Hanza. "We want to at least start some official negotiations with Mr. Třešňák," he added.

The owner of the building can confirm, withdraw, or change the offer. The city council can then decide to submit its own offer to Třešňák. "That building is one of the rarer ones in the city, and we would not like it to fall down, but we will not save it at any cost," emphasized the mayor.

Třešňák purchased the property in 2006 for 15 million crowns. He originally planned to renovate it and operate a spa there. However, the proposals for reconstruction were rejected by heritage conservationists, stating that they essentially involved the practical demolition of the building and the construction of a new one. The dilapidated classical building in the heritage zone of the spa town had its status as a cultural monument revoked by former Minister of Culture Antonín Staněk (ČSSD) just before leaving office.

The city has no intention of operating a spa in the building. "We discussed what to do with the building. I shared some of my ideas and proposals with the councilors; there could be a partial food service, definitely not a spa," stated the mayor.
