Prague – Trams will start running again through Prague’s Wenceslas Square on Saturday morning, September 28. The Prague Integrated Transport system (PID) announced this today on social network X. The passage between Vodičkova and Jindřišská streets will be restored after three months, during which the Prague Public Transit Company repaired the tracks in these two streets and built a connection to the new tram line being constructed at the upper part of Wenceslas Square.

The line through Wenceslas Square is one of the most important in the center. More than ten day and night lines pass through here during regular operation. "Trams will return here in full force on Saturday, September 28, in the morning hours," mentioned PID.

The transport organizer also pointed out that today marks the end of operations for line 35, which has its terminus on Jindřišská Street in front of Wenceslas Square and is currently the only line serving the square. "From Tuesday, September 24, until Saturday’s reopening, the section from Senovážné náměstí to Wenceslas Square will not be operated due to finishing work," wrote PID.

Construction of the new tram line in the upper half of Wenceslas Square began on June 29 and is expected to last three years, with costs projected at 1.24 billion crowns. According to information from the transit company in June, the tram service disruption through the square was supposed to last until September 30. Workers in the now-ending phase of construction, along with the tracks in Jindřišská and Vodičkova streets, also repaired the ceiling slab of the A-line metro station Můstek, which is located under the tracks, and built a switch for the future line heading towards the National Museum and Vinohradská Street.

Trams in the upper part of the square operated until 1980, and their return was decided by the previous city leadership. Compared to the original state, trams will run along the sides of the square, with a promenade in the middle. The city also plans to reduce car traffic in the square.
