Nymburk - The closed footbridge over the Elbe in Nymburk, which is at risk of collapse, is set to be demolished in August. The construction office made this decision today according to Czech Television after discussing the demolition plan. The contractor has not yet been selected.

The demolition costs are estimated at ten million crowns, and the contract for its execution was announced at the end of June.

The city closed the footbridge due to its poor condition in December, and in June, the navigation authority immediately halted boat operations on the Elbe under the footbridge, while the city also closed the areas on both banks. The footbridge has the same design and is from the same designer as the collapsed footbridge in Prague-Troja.

People must cross the Elbe via the railway bridge or the hydroelectric power station, which adds more than a kilometer to their journey. Adjacent to the closed footbridge is a road bridge, which cannot allow passage for safety reasons. Since January 15, the city has introduced free bus transport between Přemyslovců Square and Zálabí on the other side of the river.
