Beroun - The medical group Sotirios Zavalianis wants to build a psychiatric clinic in Beroun for nearly a billion crowns, which will become part of the local hospital. The so-called Center for Mental Rehabilitation already has a building permit, and work is expected to begin in September, the group informed ČTK today. The investment was previously reported by the Lidovky.cz server.

The project, according to Zavalianis, fits very well into the newly prepared concept of psychiatry in the Czech Republic and responds to the need for this service in Beroun and neighboring areas, including the western part of Prague.

"Our intention is to create a truly modern regional center that will provide a full spectrum of psychiatry but will emphasize mental rehabilitation and destigmatization of psychiatric diagnosis," Zavalianis stated in a press release sent to ČTK.

The building with a floor area of over 25,000 square meters will have a capacity of 150 beds and plans to include a large space for specialized outpatient services, a day care center, and other accompanying services. It will feature a multifunctional cinema hall, a theater, a gym, a 25-meter swimming pool, a glass atrium with tropical plants, a restaurant, and a café for patients. The rooms are to be a maximum of double occupancy, and the center will also have a covered parking lot ensuring patient discretion.

The completion date is open-ended; the speed of construction will also depend on whether subsidies can be obtained. The group, which also includes the hospital in Hořovice as well as the comprehensive oncology center in Pardubice and other facilities, is prepared to finance a significant part from its own resources. Construction is expected to proceed even if the center does not have promised funding.

The operation of the clinic would not be fully fundable under the current public health insurance payment system, so the group anticipates that it will subsidize it with 30 to 40 million crowns annually. The services provided are intended to be accessible to everyone, according to Zavalianis.
