In Brno, there are plans for the construction of parking garages on Polní and Skořepka

Brno - In Brno, two new parking garages are set to be built in the coming years, specifically on Skořepka and Polní streets. The first one, like previously constructed garages, will be located within walking distance of the historical center, while the second one will be further away from the center but connected to the tram system. The city company Brněnské komunikace is currently preparing project studies, which will clarify the capacity and type of parking garage, said company spokesperson Vladimíra Navrátilová to ČTK. It is expected that the garages could be completed in 2019 or 2020.

Skořepka is a street that connects Koliště and Vlhká and runs parallel to Křenová. Drivers arriving from the south or southeast do not currently have the opportunity to park in a parking garage. Like the second garage on Polní, the one on Skořepka is also intended primarily for short-term parking for drivers arriving in Brno. However, the parking garages can also cater to the needs of residents. The garage on Polní street may partially alleviate the daily congestion of Vídeňská street, which drivers attempt to use to reach the center.

Currently, after the completion of the parking garage on Panenská street, work is only being done on one in Besední street. This is the first phase of the Janáček Cultural Center. "Completion is expected by the end of this year. The construction simultaneously lays the foundations and technical background for the future concert hall. The integration of the first and second phases, which includes the construction of the hall, brings challenges in coordinating construction work and technologies," said Navrátilová.

Originally, it was assumed that there would be a longer time gap between the phases, which corresponded to the execution of the garage roof. A temporary square with a fountain, urban furniture, and greenery was planned to be created on it. However, preparations are now underway for the immediate connection of the concert hall construction, which will likely delay the opening of the underground garages. "However, it will ensure significant cost savings on temporary measures in the surface area," said Navrátilová.

Around the historical center, drivers can currently utilize parking garages on Panenská street, at the corner of Kounicova and Moravské náměstí, in Kopečná, and under the Janáček Theatre.
