Bystřice pod Hostýnem (Kroměříž Region) - The construction of a senior home in Bystřice pod Hostýnem in the Kroměříž region will finally be realized after two years of discussions. The project, costing 112 million crowns, has been approved by city councilors. The municipality intends to obtain approximately 74 million CZK from the state budget for the investment. Mayor Zdeněk Pánek stated this today to ČTK. Bystřice pod Hostýnem is, along with Vizovice in the Zlín region, the only municipality with extended powers in the Zlín region that does not have a facility for seniors in its jurisdiction. The standard for social services determines that there should be 30 social beds for every thousand residents over 65 years old. "Statistical data indicate that the population in this age category is continuously increasing and a home will be a necessity for our area as well," said Pánek. He also pointed out that the investment will burden the city with one quarter of the construction costs. However, the city management expects that this burden will be covered by the surplus of the city budget. Otherwise, it would have to resort to unpopular measures, such as selling the municipal housing stock. The new home is expected to accommodate 74 seniors, primarily from Bystřice pod Hostýnem and its immediate surroundings. Construction should begin in the fall of this year. If everything goes according to plan, the building will be completed in 2011.
