Brno - The construction of a new parking garage on Panenská Street in the center of Brno began today with the laying of the cornerstone. It will be completed in two years and will offer around 360 parking spaces, said Petr Kratochvíl, chairman of the board of Brněnské komunikace, to journalists today. The company is the investor of the construction. The parking fee will be approximately 35 crowns per hour.
If there is a lack of interest in the parking garage, the company would consider a lower price to attract drivers to the facility. "Then they would get used to parking there. It's a normal strategy. After all, we are a commercial company. At the same time, we agreed that the parking garage could serve, for example, the guests of the nearby hotel at night," he stated.
The parking building will have ten floors. Two will be underground, and the remaining eight will be above ground. "Simultaneously with the construction of the parking garage, we must collaborate with the city and regulate surface parking. This will encourage drivers to park in the garages and get cars off the streets. The residents of the city want this," Kratochvíl explained.
The city plans to build another parking garage on Veselá Street. "This will complete the 'golden' triangle. The underground parking under Janáček Theatre currently accommodates 400 cars, and after the construction of the parking garages on Panenská and Veselá Streets, we will have over a thousand new spaces. It won't solve all parking issues in Brno, but it will greatly help," said Brno mayor Roman Onderka (ČSSD).
