In Karlovy Vary, a pool center was opened for 271 million

Karlovy Vary - The New Swimming Pool Center started operating today in Karlovy Vary. The pool and its surroundings cost the city 271 million crowns, with most of the money expected to be recovered from a grant from the Regional Operational Program Northwest. However, Karlovy Vary is planning further investments in the recreational and sports complex, said the Mayor of Karlovy Vary, Petr Kulhánek (KOA), today to ČTK.
     "This is the third of five projects of our Integrated City Development Program. We still have to build a Health and Safety Center and a hall for ball sports," Kulhánek stated. The first investments were the modifications of the Rolava area and the adjustments to the meander of the Ohře river. "I also believe that we will manage to comply with all the grant agreements with the regional operational program," Kulhánek pointed out. The grant program is currently suspended, and no one knows if the reimbursement of grants will resume.
     The new swimming pool center is located next to the new Multifunctional Arena. It is also connected energetically, as it utilizes the waste heat from the hall. In addition to the swimming pool building itself, a new parking lot has been created next to it, and a new footbridge crosses the street to the pool.
     The original, purely sports project was later modified to offer a wider range of activities for visitors. Instead of swimming lanes, water attractions and a slide were built.
     The long-term goal of the city is to build an entire complex that will offer not only a multifunctional arena and the newly opened swimming pool but also outdoor sports facilities, including fields for football and other sports, and possibly an outdoor swimming pool. According to Kulhánek, the city is gradually taking the necessary steps for further investments. However, financial resources will be a limiting factor.
     "If we built a complex with a wide range of sports offerings, we could provide facilities such as training camps for elite teams and similar," Kulhánek added.
