In Karlovy Vary, the Vřídlo will spring forth again in the restored Vřídlo colonnade

Karlovy Vary - In Karlovy Vary today, after six years, the Vřídlo spring will once again gush in the restored hall of the Vřídlo colonnade. The city has thus completed, just before the start of this year's spa season, the repairs of the colonnade from the 1970s, which was in a state of disrepair. Part of the work included the replacement of the technology for capturing the spring water, the repair of part of the structure of the colonnade, and the restoration of its original appearance.

Vřídlo had been one of the main tourist attractions of the spa town for decades. The natural hot mineral water gushed up to twelve meters high in the middle of the spring hall. However, the spring water is also chemically aggressive and gradually eroded the structure of the colonnade itself. In 2016, the hall with the geyser had to be closed due to its emergency condition, and the gushing of Vřídlo was temporarily moved in front of the colonnade. The strength of the spring was regulated so that the water would not spray onto the neighboring buildings.

The repair of the Vřídlo colonnade has cost tens of millions of crowns in recent years. First, it was necessary to repair and replace the so-called "kreno technology," which ensures the capture and venting of the water, which cost about 24 million crowns. Then experts repaired parts of the building, particularly the floor of the spring hall, which also forms the ceiling above the technological part of the colonnade. The current second phase of repairs to the Vřídlo colonnade is expected to cost 26.5 million crowns, with its main goal being to restore the colonnade's original appearance.
