Písek - A senior home with approximately 100 beds will start to be built next year in the Otavské barracks in Písek. A private investor is renovating the former military polyclinic. The city council is currently in talks with an Israeli company that won the tender regarding the future of the second military complex in the city. The complex is expected to become a new city district, said Vojtěch Bubník, the deputy mayor of Písek. The sale of the Otavské barracks was decided by the Písek council in spring. Reconstruction of the building into a care home is expected to start next year, where military veterans should also find a new home. "This is a private investment. From the city's perspective, we are only monitoring the purpose of it. There is just a condition of what it should turn into," said Bubník. The Žižkov barracks area should, according to the Písek leadership’s plans, be transformed into a new city district with shops, apartments, and facilities for secondary or higher education. "Negotiations are still ongoing; I believe we are on the right track. Of course, some details are being fine-tuned, which depend on the investor's intentions and the city's requirements, which are sometimes not completely identical," said Bubník. The investor is expected to complete the renovations for hundreds of millions of crowns within ten years. Písek wants to assist by building infrastructure from the city budget and through subsidies. "We insist that the street lines be preserved, which will continue with the city, so that apartments can be created and it doesn't turn into a deserted shopping center," added Bubník. According to him, the investor respects the city's interests, while the city expects that without commercial objects, the investment for the company would be irreversible. Písek has also previously taken over the barracks in Purkratic and the munitions depot in Oldřichov. The city rented half of the barracks to a private entrepreneur for 600,000 CZK per year. No one showed interest in the munitions depot. Therefore, the city had the buildings, which are in a deplorable condition, demolished. The unused area of the former depot now serves for paintball games.
