Ostrava - In the historic building of the former headquarters, which is part of the renovated Trojhalí Karolina complex in Ostrava, public sports facilities have opened today. They will offer interested parties two gyms, each with an area of 600 square meters. One is designated for badminton players, while the other is for basketball, volleyball, and potentially other ball sports, said Jan Rušaj, the program manager of the interest association Trojhalí Karolina, to journalists.

For athletes, basic facilities have been prepared with 12 changing rooms, two of which are designated for people with disabilities. The complex also includes a sports bar. Athletes will be processed through a reception that is, like all facilities, part of the basement street, which is also a connection between the former headquarters building (one hall) and the former power plant (two halls), which serves as a covered square.
"We are equipped for all the sports listed here. This means that if you come without your own equipment, you can borrow anything at the reception. The facilities are prepared for up to 200 athletes," noted Rušaj.
Along with the opening of the sports facilities, the opening hours of the entire Trojhalí are also being extended. On weekdays, the complex will be open from 08:00 to 22:00, and on weekends from 10:00 to 20:00. Price lists for individual sports can already be found by interested parties on the website www.trojhali.cz.
Members of the interest association of legal entities Trojhalí Karolina, which will take care of the program content in the heritage-protected buildings, include the city of Ostrava, the Moravian-Silesian Region, and the Lower Vítkovice area. There are a number of sports facilities for the public in Ostrava, but the complex located in one of the Trojhalí buildings is unique precisely because it is located in an industrial cultural monument that has been neglected for years.
The reconstructed buildings of the Ostrava Trojhalí Karolina have been open to the public since July 11, and the sports facilities are in operation from today. The industrial buildings on the revitalized area of the former Karolina coking plant are somewhat of a center between the historic city center and the industrial Lower Vítkovice area, which has been transforming into a new cultural and social center in recent years. The design for the reconstruction of Trojhalí comes from leading Czech architect Josef Pleskot, who has previously contributed to the transformation of the former Gasometer into a multifunctional hall Gong and to the design of the emerging Science and Technology Center. The reconstruction of the buildings took about two years and cost 170 million crowns excluding VAT, with the majority of the costs covered by European subsidies.
