Panenské Břežany (near Prague) - The reconstruction of the chapel of St. Anne at the upper castle in Panenské Břežany near Prague can continue. This was decided by the regional councilors. The total costs for the repair of the chapel are 7.3 million crowns, said the councilor for culture Zdeněk Štefek (KSČM) to reporters today. The chapel of St. Anne is one of the most significant buildings of high baroque in Bohemia, designed by Jan Blažej Santini. The regional government suspended work in December 2012. The county leadership was then reassessing some projects with the aim of saving more. The following year, a project for the reconstruction of the entire castle was being prepared, in which a museum of resistance is to be established, and funding from European funds was decided. The reconstruction of the upper castle was entrusted to the company MTStav Příbram, which offered a price of 30 million crowns. Gradually, the repair of the castle park designed by the significant landscape architect František Josef Thomayer will also be completed, which includes not only grassy areas, trees, bushes, roads, and paved areas, but also water features and sculptures. During the war, the upper castle was inhabited by the prominent Nazi leader Karl Hermann Frank. In the past, it was occupied by seniors who had to move out, which was criticized by opposition regional councilors. The exhibition aims to bring visitors closer to the period from 1938 to 1946 in the European context, emphasizing the events leading to the assassination of the acting Reich Protector Reinhard Heydrich. During the war, he lived in the lower Břežany castle, which now belongs to a private company. Heydrich, who was, among other things, a co-author of the so-called final solution to the Jewish question, was sent to Prague to break the local anti-Nazi resistance. The assassination attempt on him is considered one of the most significant actions of the Czech resistance.
