Prague – A space for leisure activities is set to be created in the underpasses beneath the Hlávkův Bridge in Prague 7 under the main road. The underpasses are currently unattractive and neglected. Sports elements for skateboarding, a basketball hoop, and refreshments are to be constructed here. The beautification of the passages was approved today by the representatives of the district council. The costs are estimated at several million Czech crowns. When exactly the transformation of the underpasses will take place remains unclear.

The aim of the changes and repairs to the underpasses is to create a multifunctional urban space for leisure activities and street sports. Emphasis will be placed on so-called street activities. The area and sports facilities would operate year-round.

The spaces will be thoroughly cleaned, surfaces will be repaired, and lighting and electrical wiring will be replaced. Subsequently, mobile elements typical for street sports will be installed. Obstacles for skateboarding and BMX, as well as holds for bouldering, will be installed. The renovations will also include a mobile bar counter.

The construction of the sports facilities was made possible by the creation of pedestrian crossings above ground. Until then, the underpasses were the only way to walk from Vltavská to Hlávkův Bridge and consequently to Štvanice or the right bank of the Vltava.
