Zlín - The project Clean River Bečva II, which addressed the sewerage of municipalities in the Vsetín region, received the governor's award in the Construction of the Year 2016 competition of the Zlín Region, which is the highest award given this year. The competition for the most valuable construction achievement realized by builders in the Zlín Region took place for the 15th year, and the level of submitted projects, materials used, and technologies is rising, said Dagmar Nová, the chairwoman of the jury, to ČTK today.
"I did not award the governor's prize to the Clean River Bečva II project just for the investment of over a billion, but because it is an ecological project serving citizens across a large area of our region and primarily requiring tremendous cooperation among dozens of municipalities. This has rarely been achieved in the Czech Republic," stated governor Jiří Čunek (KDU-ČSL).
The highest award, the Grand Prix of architect Pavel Novák, was again not awarded by the jury this year, as in previous years. According to Nová, it is designated for extraordinary projects. In the past, it was awarded to the Baťa Institute, which was created by the renovation of factory buildings in the former Baťa industrial area.
This year, 42 buildings entered the competition, one fewer than last year. Traditionally, the most represented category was public facilities. The main prize in this category was awarded to the Vsetín hotel and restaurant U Stavaře; the jury appreciated the complexity of the site and the high quality of execution, including details. According to Nová, an interesting project is also the funeral hall in Spytihněv in the Zlín region.
In other categories, the main prize was awarded to the Otrokovice complex KCK Cyklosport-Mode, the transport terminal in Uherský Brod, and the New Monastery in Napajedla.
"Overall, the projects are characterized by high quality execution of details, the use of modern building materials, and the application of modern and demanding technologies. This year, it is also important to highlight the results of several years of work and conceptual approaches to the regeneration of city centers, public spaces, and significant buildings. This is most evident in Napajedla and Uherský Brod, where the results of gradual and thoughtful investment activities in their heritage-protected centers are clearly visible, which residents and visitors will surely appreciate most," Nová said.
