The Building of the Year 2022 in the Zlin Region is a timber construction and the headquarters of the Kloboucká lesní company

Zlín - The administrative building of Kloboucká lesní company in Brumov-Bylnice in the Zlín Region received the highest award in the Building of the Year 2022 competition for the Zlín Region - Grand Prix of architect Pavel Novák. It is an extraordinary company headquarters of a forestry and wood-processing firm, mainly using wood from the surrounding forests and processed on a local line, said today Dagmar Nová, the chairwoman of the expert jury.

"A highly elegant and purposefully designed wooden structure excels in high architectural quality and design, perfect work with wood including the construction, details, and interior elements, all with regard to sustainable building," Nová stated. The company headquarters was constructed using glued wooden trusses that the company manufactures.

This year's 21st edition of the Building of the Year competition for the Zlín Region received a record 61 entries. "The decision-making was difficult. Probably no building was bad, and each deserved at least some recognition. In several categories, we awarded two main prizes and gave out many honorable mentions," Nová noted. The jury evaluated buildings completed last year across seven categories, with the highest number in the category of buildings realized outside the Zlín Region, which had 20 entries.

Among the civic amenity buildings, the main prize was awarded to the multifunctional sports hall Kapka Resort from Lhota near Vsetín and the cultural house in Strání in the Uherskohradiště region. The jury awarded an honorable mention to the Jaguar Trek exhibition at the Zlín Zoo, the reconstruction of the building of the regional hygiene station and hospital management in Zlín, the restoration of roofs and rafters at Buchlov Castle, and the completion of the school building in Boršice.

In the residential buildings category, the main prize went to the Zlín Residence Sadová and a multipurpose house on Hradební Street in Uherské Hradiště. An honorable mention was awarded for the reconstruction of the university dormitories of the Zlín University. The jury also granted two honorable mentions to family houses in Zlín. In the industrial and agricultural buildings category, an honorable mention went to the STK complex in Uherský Brod. The main prize among transport, engineering, and ecological buildings was awarded to the sewer system in the municipalities of Ořechov and Vážany and the road bypassing Kunovice. The Zlín ecocenter Na Pasece received an honorable mention.

In the category of development projects for towns and municipalities, the main prize was awarded to the restoration of the marketplace Pod Kaštany in Zlín and the community center in Ratiboř. An honorable mention was awarded for the renovation of the square in Valašské Meziříčí, the outdoor pools of the Delfín aquapark in Uherský Brod, and the restoration of the dock in Otrokovice. In the category of buildings taken care of by companies from the region outside the Zlín Region, the main prize went to Domov Ždírec and the Alukov facility in Slatiňany.

The Zlín Region governor's award was given for the reconstruction of building 14 at the Uherskohradišťská hospital. "Managing the reconstruction of a healthcare facility while in operation is very complicated. At the same time, it is an exemplary demonstration that even in healthcare, original buildings can be modernized, allowing them to continue serving for many more decades," stated governor Radim Holiš (ANO). The Ministry of Industry and Trade award went to the reconstruction of the Anafra company building in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. The award from the Syndicate of Journalists was received by the water biotope in the Zlín housing estate Jižní Svahy. Representatives of buildings in Uherský Brod received the awards today.
