Ústí nad Orlicí - The Town Hall in Ústí nad Orlicí wants to develop a comprehensive concept for the future use of the extensive site of the former textile factory Perla this year, which the city purchased in 2010. CTK was informed by Mayor Petr Hájek (Association Oušťáci). So far, only a few dozen parking spaces have been created on the site, and some areas are temporarily rented to small entrepreneurs.

The town hall administration organized a round table for councilors at the end of last year to present the steps taken so far and set a further schedule for this year. "This year we want to move forward a bit. We want to have the traffic situation analyzed in relation to the Perla site and clearly define what can and cannot be in this area, and what the city should provide and what private investors should," said the mayor.
According to him, the overall concept could be completed in September or October. Based on it, the city intends to commission architectural studies for specific buildings. For its own construction activities, it plans to utilize the next wave of European subsidies after 2014.
Last year, Ústí also reached out to architecture students to propose how to handle the site. "We already have some materials, and we will receive more after the winter semester ends," said Hájek, adding that it is too early to discuss the proposals received.
The strategically located site of the bankrupt textile factory Perla, which is eight times larger than the central square, was purchased by the city for 30 million crowns. The factory ceased production in 2009, a year before it employed 400 people.
