Vsetín – Reconstruction of the stadium in Ohrada has begun in Vsetín. The first step is the demolition of the concrete stands, the spokesperson of the Vsetín town hall, Jana Raszková, stated in a press release today.
The demolition will cost almost five million crowns excluding VAT. "Construction work should then continue next year, starting with the restoration of the football pitch, including irrigation, the construction of an athletic oval, modifications of the earth mounds, building a storage facility for firefighters, a parking lot, and connections to engineering networks," the spokesperson stated. Further phases will follow.
The football stadium with an athletic track was acquired by the city in 2017 for ten million crowns from the Tělovýchovná jednota MEZ Vsetín. The condition of the stadium was poor and did not allow for further use. Only the covered grandstand, which houses accommodation and a restaurant, remained the property of TJ MEZ. The town hall then began preparing the reconstruction of the stadium, which in the future should serve not only the football players but also other athletes.
"We have long felt the absence of facilities for athletic disciplines; the firefighters' sport will also have its place here, and other sports clubs will have the opportunity to use it for training, as well as schools having allocated time for physical education," said Deputy Mayor Tomáš Pifka (STAN). There will be a training area for firefighters' sports and a covered grandstand with changing rooms and facilities.
The demolition of the concrete stands, walls, and grandstands should be completed by the end of November. The city hopes to put the sports facility into operation next year. The current concrete stands will be replaced by a raised grass mound. Opposite the current grandstand, a covered grandstand with facilities for athletes is planned. "Given the anticipated financial demands of the reconstruction, which according to the project amounts to 140 million crowns excluding VAT, it will certainly be our effort to secure co-financing from grant sources from the state or the European Union," said Mayor Jiří Růžička (KDU-ČSL). The city has requested a grant from the National Sports Agency, which could reach up to 40 million crowns.
