Pardubice - A footbridge will connect the Dukla housing estate and the railway station in Pardubice. Today, the city councilors favored it over an underpass. The council proposed this option mainly because an elevated path is cheaper. The city will continue with project preparations.

The station and Dukla are next to each other, but there is no direct path between them. Passengers sometimes take risks and shorten their journey to the train by crossing the tracks. Despite a critical debate among the councilors that lasted two hours, the proposal was ultimately supported by 24 out of 39 councilors.

The footbridge, 240 meters long, is expected to cost 45 million crowns according to initial estimates, and with the support of European grants, the city would contribute less than seven million. The underpass would cost between 108 and 144 million crowns. The city's contribution is expected to be around 60 million crowns.

The design of the footbridge in the study may not be final, the presenters reassured the councilors present. The footbridge is to be built along with the planned modernization of the railway hub, which is being prepared by the Railway Infrastructure Administration.

It is expected to be completed by 2022, when the EU funding period ends. The footbridge is set to start at the very edge of the platforms near the future Terminal B for line transport and will lead to K Vápence street, where a South terminal for buses and a parking garage for 500 vehicles is also planned.
