Brno - The councilors of Vyškov will address the issue of what to do with the ice rink from the 1970s in June. They will either fully renovate it or demolish it and build a new one, said Deputy Mayor Břetislav Usnul (KDU-ČSL) to reporters today. According to him, both options will cost approximately 120 million crowns. The city will partially cover costs from reserves, has a promised grant from the region and the Ministry of Education, and will likely take out a loan for the remainder. Construction is expected to start in the spring of next year and should last for a year. The councilors will choose between two options. "The comprehensive reconstruction option involves retaining the load-bearing steel structure, which experts say is the only permanently valuable element of the entire building. We would complete the rest of the stadium," Usnul stated. He believes that the advantage of retaining the structure and appearance of the stadium, as well as the possibility of sectoral construction, which is not possible with a new build, are beneficial. For the new build, Usnul considers the new structure an advantage, and also that the iron structure from the demolition of the old stadium could be monetized, covering part of the costs. "Personally, I lean towards the new build option," Usnul added. Opposition councilor Jana Podrápská (ANO) also considers the reconstruction or construction of the stadium a necessity. "The stadium is inadequate; we all know that. It is necessary to weigh both options, each has its pros and cons. I am currently not leaning towards either one and it is necessary to consider finances and the ecological aspect," Podrápská told ČTK. According to Deputy Mayor Usnul, the stadium is busy, even though Vyškov is not in any higher hockey league. "We have many youth clubs here and the figure skating club is also quite active," Usnul said. This year, Vyškov is operating with a deficit budget, with revenues amounting to 355 million and expenditures of 362 million crowns.
