Bílovec (Novojičínsko) - The castle in Bílovec in the Novojičín region is expected to undergo further construction modifications this year, totaling 2.5 million crowns. The reconstruction will involve the Gothic cellar, the restoration of stone door frames, and the replacement of windows in the attic and doors in the passage. This was announced today by the spokesperson of the Bílovec town hall, Šárka Seidlerová. The castle belongs to the city.
"We want to make the oldest part of the castle, the Gothic cellar, accessible to visitors. We are currently negotiating with the National Heritage Institute about which historical finds discovered during the reconstruction of the courtyard will become part of the exhibition," said Bílovec mayor Pavel Mrva (ČSSD).
Weekend tours have been held at the castle for five years. This year, the castle park has also been opened to the public. "Currently, public works employees are providing cleanup here. To allow the area around the castle to enable residents and visitors to spend their leisure time here, we are also preparing the revitalization of the castle garden. In connection with this, we plan to apply for a state grant," the mayor stated.
A wooden stage for musical groups performing at events in the castle complex will be created this year in the reconstructed castle courtyard. However, the city is also modifying the areas around the castle. "In the first half of this year, the space between the museum and the castle will be modified, with a budget of 783,000 crowns," Seidlerová noted.
The buildings in the adjacent summer cinema are undergoing comprehensive repairs. They will have new windows and façade. This month, a renovated restroom will be opened there, which will also serve as public toilets for the city. "In total, the city will invest 750,000 crowns in the aesthetic improvement of the summer cinema area this year," Seidlerová stated.
The Renaissance castle in Bílovec from the late 16th century burned down at the end of World War II and received its current form during subsequent repairs. It was then used as a storage facility for medical supplies or as an archive. In 1994, the city acquired the castle, which has invested around 15 million crowns in repairs over the past 15 years.
