Čechy pod Kosířem

Čechy pod Kosířem - The castle in Čechy pod Kosířem in the Prostějov region continues with further parts of the reconstruction of the heritage building. Builders are now completing the new entrance to the castle grounds and repairing the roofs of all the castle wings. There are plans for another phase of repairs, which will focus on the reconstruction of the first and second floors of the eastern wing of the castle. Břetislav Holásek from the Regional Museum in Olomouc, which manages the castle complex, told reporters today.

The castle opened its third visitor season this year after an extensive reconstruction, during which the building was closed for several years.

"So far, nearly one hundred million crowns have been invested in the castle. The roof is now being completed in two phases due to the protection of bats. It will be finished in May next year, when the scaffolding will also disappear from the courtyard, until the next reconstruction begins. The roof repair will cost about 50 million crowns, and the next stage of reconstruction will cost between 70 and 80 million crowns," Holásek stated.

The fourth phase, which is to begin in the middle of next year and is expected to last until November 2021, includes, in addition to the reconstruction of the eastern castle wing, also the modification of the outer façade, courtyard, and the expansion of the Zdeněk and Jan Svěrák Film Museum. "Project documentation is now being prepared," Holásek added. There are also plans for the revitalization of the Large and Small ponds in the castle complex. Holásek estimated the costs for this at up to 50 million crowns, and the issue of grant titles is being addressed.

The castle in Čechy pod Kosířem boasts renovated chambers, a new exhibition, a revitalized park, and an orangery following previous renovations. The Olomouc Region took over the castle from the state eight years ago. It first opened to the public on April 2, 2016, and during its first season attracted over 30,000 visitors; since then, attendance has been increasing.
