Ústí nad Labem

Ústí nad Labem – Recreants at Lake Milada near Ústí nad Labem will enjoy greater facilities this season. Ten new rest areas will be created throughout the area, an autonomous charging station for e-bikes, and specially modified trails for mountain biking, known as singletracks, will begin to be built on the southeastern slopes. This was stated by the spokesperson of the Ústí Fuel Combine (PKÚ), which manages the area.

Two new bike boxes are located at the main beach and near the Trmice beach. In total, there will be four bike boxes with a capacity of up to 24 bikes available for visitors to the lake, which was created by flooding a former mine. Access to the water will improve outside the main beaches thanks to swimming piers around the lake, from which wave barriers can be easily crossed.

The plan includes the improvement of all beaches, with fine gravel and sand being added. "However, considering the highly monitored issue of water cleanliness, it is not possible to place sand in the water and its immediate surroundings," said Volfová. The bottom of the lake is rocky, and the water is clear, free from bacteria even on hot summer days. "We are also working on improving waste management in the area, and service providers have a contractual obligation to reduce the amount of single-use packaging and replace it with returnable packaging," the spokesperson stated.

Milada is a popular walking destination for Ústí residents, and the number of visitors from other areas is increasing. The parking lots near both main beaches are particularly full during nice weather. "This year, project preparations for parking lots at all main access points to the lake will begin. During the realization of the parking lots, temporary adjustments and expansions of existing areas will be coordinated and implemented in cooperation with landowners," said Volfová.

The first food stalls will open on May 1. From the same date, a new bus line will start operating to the lake, which will run from the theater in downtown Ústí to the stop above the main beach and then to the stop by Trmice beach. It will operate on weekends and holidays every hour. During the summer holidays, it will operate in this mode every day.

Currently, the landscape-urban-architectural competition is in its final stages. The participants who progressed to the second round must submit their proposals by the end of April. In May, an expert jury will assess them, and the results will be announced at a ceremonial declaration in the museum on June 29, when an exhibition related to the competition will also be launched. "The competition is anonymous, and until the results are announced, we do not know which proposals individual studios are submitting. The entire organization of the competition is managed by a professional company selected through a tender. The competition is international, so it will be very interesting to gain perspective on the development of such a large area from the eyes of foreign participants," Volfová added.
